APPROACH - Sleep of the vine begins
Dear friends, dear customers,
The leaves have fallen almost smoothly, one by one, leaving behind them this pretty autumn craze that cracks under the footsteps. In a few days, the vines of Orschwihr have changed their faces: the rows have been refined, the stocks are more clearly drawn, as if the hill had been lightened. Winter approaches, not as an end, but as a season that comes to restore order, calm the light, store colors.
Where, recently, the foliage filtered the sun into moving spots, the light now circulates full, slipping between bare rows, hanging the pickets, the threads, the numb trunks. The climates of Orschwihr are rediscovered from another angle: the slopes seem more straight, the curves of the relief more legible, the perspectives open up to the village, until the mountains in the distance on clear days. We can see better the walls, the paths, the isolated trees that watch over the plots.
The mornings take on a different look: small low fogs that cling to the vine feet, white light that stretch gently on the hillsides, first light buds that highlight the contours of the vines. In the afternoon, the sun razes the rows, sleeps the woods, lengthens the shadows and gives the hill an air of engraved landscape. Nothing spectacular, but a succession of small metamorphoses that, day after day, tell about the entry into a new phase.
In that season, the vine was a little quiet, but the landscape speaks differently. We hear better the noise of the step on the earth, the breath of the wind in the wires, the cry of a bird crossing the plot. The climates change appearance and light without sadness, with this calm obvious of things that follow their course. The winter that comes here is especially the occasion to see Orschwihr differently, to rediscover the same ranks in another light, patiently waiting for the cycle to start again.
