Verticale du Grand Cru Pfingstberg Gewurztraminer at Domaine Camille Braun – The memory of a place

One tasting workshop around a vertical Grand Cru Pfingstberg Gewurztraminer will be offered upon reservation. This tasting will allow us to explore in time the expression of the same great terroir and to observe how a wine transforms, matures and reveals, from one vintage to another, different faces. For curious amateurs as for enthusiasts of wine from AlsaceThis will be a valuable opportunity to refine their perception and measure the depth of a place over several years.

The Pfingstberg: a large terroir with multiple strata

The Grand Cru Pfingstberg is not a word to be summed up. Its basement marno-calcaro-grey spreads in subtle variations depending on altitude, slope and exposure. It is this controlled heterogeneity that makes its richness and complexity: each plot finds a slightly different expression, each grape variety seeks and finds its own way of standing.

The parcels of Gewurztraminer of the field occupy a particular position in this great whole. They are implanted in the Lower part of Pfingstberg, where the slope softens, where the soil thickens slightly, where the marne predominates. This choice is not trivial. The marne, in its deep nature, is a ground of restraint and generosity. It accumulates heat, preserves moisture, nourishes the vine with a regularity that the more superficial soils cannot offer. It gives the wine a wider material, a more enveloping texture, an aromatic depth that expresses itself over time.

And on these rich soils, the vines are not young. These are: very old vines, whose roots have had time to descend far, to cross the strata, to find in the rock what the surface can no longer give. Vines that have learned to stand, not to rush, to produce little but just. Vines whose age is read in the balance of wine: less volume, more density; less immediate shine, more persistence.

Gewurztraminer beyond exuberance

The Gewurztraminer is a grape variety that is often thought to know. It is readily associated with rose, litchi, sweet spices, with this aromatic generosity which can sometimes invade everything. But on the old marry vines of PfingstbergHe says something else. He says depth rather than brightness, hold rather than exuberance, slow complexity rather than immediate seduction.

Here, the grape variety serves the place. The marne gives it its material, its density, this almost tactile texture which is perceived in the mouth as a presence. The old vines give him his concentration, his restraint, this way of not delivering everything at once but of gradually unfolding, like a long sentence that takes his time before concluding. The Gewurztraminer of Pfingstberg is a local wine, a wine of memory, a wine capable of holding the conversation with the years.

What the vertical reveals: the continuity of a climate

In a vertical Grand Cru Pfingstbergtime becomes readable. It is no longer just a matter of comparing vintages, but of hearing what the place preserves, moves, deepens. From one vintage to another, we will see the wine transform, ripen, reveal different faces. A more solar year will give a wider matter, a more open expression, a more immediate generosity. A cooler year will tighten the line, sharpen the tension, give the wine an unexpected verticality for the grape variety.

But in watermark, something remains. The Marne du Pfingstberg is always there, in this particular texture, in this way that the wine holds in the mouth, not to be carried away by the vintage but to cross it with its own consistency. The old vines are always there, in this density of matter, in this quiet concentration that distinguishes the great wines from the simply good wines. This moment will give to see the continuity of a climate, but also how each season changes its accent without altering its voice.

A quest for transparency and loyalty to the terroir

Behind each vintage presented in this vertical, the same intention: transparency. Leave it Grand Cru Pfingstberg speaking without cluttering, letting old vines express themselves without forcing them, let the Gewurztraminer find an expression on this soil that resembles him and looks like the place. This is the philosophy of Domaine Camille Braun : to accompany rather than impose, to reveal rather than build, to seek in each vintage not the demonstration, but the correctness.

This tasting will measure the depth of a Grand Cru of AlsaceNot in the moment, but in the duration. It will give to see how an estate is built, how a vision is defined, how the wine ends up like what the winemaker was looking for without always knowing how to name it. An hour spent going through time in a drink. One hour, maybe, to understand what the word really means. Land.

Why participate in this day at Domaine Camille Braun?

Participate in this day of open doors in Alsace, it is to choose an experience that combines discovery of the vineyard, reading the landscapes, tasting and conviviality. It also comes to meet a winery in Orschwihr whose wines draw their character from the precision of the places, the care given to the vine and a demanding vision of the profession. The gourmet walk in Orschwihr gives this encounter a particularly fair form: you walk, you observe, you taste, you exchange, then you share a lunch in the estate in the natural extension of the walk.

For those who like to understand what they enjoy, connect a wine to its landscape, discover the climates of Orschwihr and live an authentic moment in the heart of Alsatian vineyards, this day will offer an experience that is both accessible, singular and memorable. One way to remember that wine is never alone: it comes from a place, from a season, from a gesture, from a presence. There is a dialogue between the plant and the soil, between the climate and the hand, between what is received and what is transmitted.
